Why MyPeople

Our Approach

At MyPeople, we combine time-tested principles with cutting-edge academic research to unlock team potential and enhance performance. Our scientific approach is underpinned by strategic partnerships with leading universities in the UK, USA, and the Netherlands, ensuring our solutions are rigorously refined to address the unique challenges faced by organisations of all sizes.

In high-risk industries, such as rail, chemical engineering, manufacturing, and construction, maintaining workplace safety, reducing incidents, and fostering a culture of accountability are persistent challenges. While traditional safety programs focus on processes and compliance, we believe that true safety outcomes are driven by human behaviour and decision-making.

Unlike conventional safety measures that prioritise rules and procedures, MyPeople’s approach integrates behavioural science, psychometric profiling, and industry benchmarking to deliver deep, actionable insights. By focusing on the behaviours of individuals and the culture of teams, we help organisations shift towards a proactive safety culture where safety is embedded in every decision and action.

Through this advanced, behaviour-driven approach, we empower organisations to achieve lasting improvements in safety culture and performance, leading to fewer incidents, enhanced accountability, and ultimately, safer work environments.

Bridging the Safety Data Gap

Safety Methodology

The MyPeople safety methodology focuses on the behavioural and cultural drivers of workplace safety. While traditional methods emphasise systemic measures, such as compliance with regulations and robust processes, these are not sufficient for fostering a mature safety culture. Research indicates that unsafe behaviours, rather than systemic failures, are responsible for most workplace accidents. MyPeople aims to improve safety by addressing the underlying behavioural and cultural drivers, including personality traits, team dynamics, and organisational values. This approach provides actionable insights that help reduce accidents and improve operational outcomes by fostering a proactive safety culture.

Workplace Safety Framework

Existing frameworks for managing workplace safety vary, with some focusing on systemic issues while others evaluate cultural factors. Popular models such as the Bradley Curve, Safety Culture Maturity Model (SCMM), and Swiss Cheese Model each have strengths and weaknesses. The Bradley Curve and SCMM provide clarity but may oversimplify complex issues, while the Swiss Cheese and HFACS models focus on systemic analysis but may become cumbersome and difficult to implement. MyPeople’s approach combines the best of these frameworks, offering a more granular, data-driven model that accounts for both systems and behaviours, and focuses on proactive safety improvement rather than just retrospective analysis.

Measuring Safety Behaviours

Measuring safety behaviours at individual and team levels is critical for improving workplace safety. Safety behaviours encompass actions like compliance with protocols, risk awareness, accountability, and communication. These behaviours can be assessed through self-assessments and organisational surveys. MyPeople’s approach introduces a comprehensive model that includes eight key safety constructs: Desire to Improve, Diligence, Evaluative Decision-Making, Personal Responsibility, Risk Awareness, Rule Adherence, Safety Communication, and Willingness to Act. The goal is to create a scalable, unobtrusive system that provides real-time insights into safety culture and helps identify areas for improvement.

Safety Behaviour Model

Drawing from a meta-analysis of safety models in European rail companies, MyPeople developed an 8-construct safety behaviour model tailored to the unique needs of safety-critical industries. These constructs reflect the core aspects of safety behaviour, including risk awareness, responsibility, and communication. This new model integrates seamlessly with the MyPeople 13-factor workplace values framework, ensuring a holistic approach to safety. It allows organisations to assess individual and team safety behaviours and align them with broader cultural values. This comprehensive model aims to provide clear, actionable insights for enhancing safety behaviours across various organisational contexts.

Reliability and Validity

MyPeople ensures the reliability and validity of its assessments through ongoing research and validation. Our in-house team of occupational psychologists and data scientists continuously collaborate to refine our platform and assessments. This research helps ensure that the results accurately predict safety behaviours and performance, and that our solutions are grounded in solid, evidence-based methods that provide actionable and trustworthy insights.

Enhancing Safety Cultures

At MyPeople, we believe that safety and performance start with people. High-risk industries rely on procedures, regulations, and compliance measures, but the true drivers of safety are behaviours and decision-making at every level of an organisation.

MyPeople provides an innovative, data-driven approach to enhancing safety culture, hiring for safety critical roles, and optimising teams. Our behavioural software and methodology help businesses reduce incidents, foster accountability, and build high-performing, safety-conscious teams.
